Global Warming: Darwinian Evolution in Humans?

12 May

By Mike McGee

Most scientists have a difficult time looking at the possibility of the Darwinian evolution of the physical form and structure of human beings in responses to challenges from the environment. We can easily see how a plant or a lower animal can alter its structure and very being, or become extinct either locally or widespread, under evolutionary pressures exerted over only a very few years.

Global warming is almost certainly a product of the increase in the population of the earth from 2 billion to 7.5 billion souls in the span of less than a century. It is mathematically definite that the increase in body heat and cooking fires and auto engine heat alone will raise the natural planetary temperature to some degree. Add on factories and HVAC and land denuded for agriculture or meat, and other things needed to sustain a larger population, and there is even more natural and inevitable pressure increasing the planetary temperature. 16 Mar

By Mike McGee

It’s a fallacy to look only at the prisons and the police to find solutions to reduce mass incarceration in America. Reoffending and going back to prison generates a lot of the prison population. There are many ways to reduce the prison population by reducing reoffending. Continue reading

I’ve noticed that there is now academic as well as popular interest in “Dismantling Mass Incarceration” in the United States. When serious academics get involved, it’s time to address the issue head-on. Continue reading

Without minimizing the culpability of those who created and have perpetuated the Flint water crisis, much less the pain of the citizens, I want you to consider that the crisis in Flint, Michigan, is not quite as catastrophic as it seems. Continue reading

Why the Academy Awards Are Now Irrelevant: The times, they are a-changin’

27 Jan

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.

By Mike McGee.

The Oscar nominations for 2015 demonstrate that the Academy Awards and the whole structure behind them are rapidly becoming obsolete and irrelevant. Actually they may already be irrelevant, holding on only to past glory. The racial issue is only one more symbol of the obsolescence of the formerly great institution. Continue reading
